Baseball Career Highlights:
Armstead began playing in the Negro Leagues in 1938 as a pitcher with the Indianapolis ABCs and the St. Louis Stars. As a reserve outfielder for the Baltimore Elite Giants during the 1940 season, Armstead batted .294. He concluded his baseball career as an outfielder with the Philadelphia Stars in 1949.
