"I was the first African American umpire to attend the Al Somers Umpire School in Daytona Beach, Florida. At the end of my training, I earned the designation 'Outstanding Umpire.' The second year I attended, I was a top honors student. After umpire school, I became an umpire for the Pacific Coast League. In addition, I was the chief umpire for the College World Series, in Omaha, Nebraska, and for several Big Eight Tournaments. I worked for General Motors for 37 years as a general foreman and superintendent."
